The last 4 weeks have been so frustrating, the problem with my calf hasn't gone, it's still loitering with intent.
After getting in to a routine of regular exercise it's surprising how much your affected when a leg injury happens, add this injury to last years knee problems and I now realise my weight is probably the main cause of these injuries, so I need to loose some serious weight to reduce the impact on my knees, quads and calf's.
One activity which is possible is the bike, and I've been out as much as I can, but the weather hasn't been that great, so in recent days I've been considering buying a mountain bike, this way I can still get out when the weather isn't that good.
Last weekend I met with a few of Celtic Tri guys and we rode the mumbles duathlon course, overall I enjoyed the course as it has a mixture of climbs and decents, and this is where I had my near miss.
On the homeward leg we approached the last section of the ride and I took a right hand corner to fast and almost had a meet and greet with a wall, thankfully both myself and the bike are okay.
The incident made me realise that for last year of riding I've become immune to the dangers a slippery road on a tight corner can have so on the 24th March I will be taking it easy on those types of corner.
My approach to the Mumbles Duathlon is to take it easy on the first 5k , regain some time during the bike phase, and wing it on the last 5k and hope my calf holds up. I've set myself a target time of 2hr 30min to complete the course, and I'm not sure how ambitious this target is?
Good luck to all Celtic Tri members who are doing the Duathlon on the 24th.
Thanks for reading
